I’d like to acknowledge where thinking about the names of God originated in my life.
I wanted to try a portrait, so I painted Hannah. I could have painted David and Goliath instead for this name of God. It’s the second portrait I’ve ever done in watercolor.
Exodus 15:22-26 tells about a place that had bitter waters. What a thing to find after traveling three days in the desert! The people grumbled and God showed Moses a tree. He was to throw this tree into the water. When he did, the waters became fit to drink!
Moses saw a new thing - a bush that burned but was not burned up - so he went to investigate. Before coming too close, God told Moses to remove his sandals because he was on holy ground. Then God told him Who He was and what He wanted Moses to do. Moses asked what he should tell the Israelites if they asked him what His name is, so God said “I AM WHO I AM. Tell them I AM sent you.”
As I looked at a grandchild’s ultrasound, I remembered these verses from Psalm 139. What amazing work God does to make such a small person and grow him or her into the baby we hold and love for the rest of our lives!
