I’d like to acknowledge where thinking about the names of God originated in my life.
In the 1990’s, my pastor’s wife led a Bible study on the topic. Most recently, I’ve gone through the book LORD, I Want to Know You by Kay Arthur. For the name ‘God Provides,’ they both tell that God knows our need before we do and ‘sees to it’ ahead of time.
In Genesis 22:1-14, God asked Abraham to give up Isaac, the son he loved. Abraham’s faith and love for God surpassed his love for Isaac. He believed God could raise Isaac from the dead (Hebrews 11:17-19), but God had already provided a ram for the sacrifice instead. If God asks something of us, He has already provided for it.
