Wedding Prayer

This month we celebrated our 40th anniversary. Someone recently asked what is our secret. While we don’t have nearly all of the answers, one of the things we did while dating was getting together just to pray, and often.

I was in my senior year of college and my husband was working full-time so we were both busy, but I think taking time out to bathe our relationship in prayer was very important. That’s why I chose this part of our wedding ceremony to paint for our anniversary.

Also, think, and speak, well of your spouse. Don’t tear them down in private, and especially not in public. You can disagree without being disagreeable.

Philippians 4:6-8 speaks about both of these things. These verses are about the Christian life, but marriage is an important part of that for us.

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.
