Apples Of Gold

I wanted a challenge, and I got it when I decided to paint gold apples in a silver dish.

It took awhile to come up with the right still life, beginning with spray painting fake apples gold. The silver dish was a wedding gift, and needed polishing. After research and finding out that the successful painting of gold and silver items is mainly in the reflections, I put the dish several places looking for an interesting one that wasn’t too busy. It sits on our organ stool for the photo. After painting layers darkening the darks, I finished with Prismacolor pencils (as I usually do).

Scripture is always the best thought, and it will be enough for this painting. This is a good reminder not just for our time, but no matter what age a person lives in - past, present, or future:

Proverbs 25:11 - Like apples of gold in settings of silver is a word spoken in right circumstances. (New American Standard Bible)

A few other versions translated it this way - A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in a setting of silver.

And Proverbs 15:23 - A man has joy in an apt answer, And how delightful is a timely word!
